In recent days, our facilities in Villacarrillo have hosted tests for an innovative project by the University of Jaén (UJA) aimed at measuring antenna radiation patterns using drones.

The tests consisted of using a moderate gain reflector test antenna (20dB gain) whose emitted signal was measured using a low-cost ground power system (consisting of a HackRF connected to the antenna, a Raspberry Pi to control the signal emitted by the antenna, and a high-gain amplifier), whose emitted signal was then detected by the detection system assembled on a DJI Matrice 300 drone. This detection system is lightweight (less than 3 kg).

During the tests, semicircular flights were performed in a zenith plane, piloted and supervised by remote control by a specialized pilot, so that the performance of the antenna under test could be tested in flight, as well as the signal emitted and the programmed trajectory of the drone.
